Obituary: Lila Langley Barnhill


MARCH 6, 1936 - AUGUST 24, 2010

Lila Emily Langley Barnhill, 74, died August 24, 2010, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Center in Wilmington. 

Preceding her in death were her parents, Preston Cecil and Sallie Carawan Langley; two brothers, Cecil Marion Langley and Rudolph "Buddy" Langley; and two sisters, Meredith Spencer and Nellie "Tiny" Kennedy. 

She is survived by her husband of forty nine years, Elbert R. Barnhill of the home; two sons, Jeffrey R. Barnhill (Mary Claire) of Wilmington and E. Lee Barnhill of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Andrew, Katie, Eric and Brianne Barnhill; a brother, George Langley (Eileen) of Apopka Florida; a sister-in-law, Hilda Langley of Wilmington; numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Mrs. Barnhill was born in Pantego, NC and moved to New Hanover County in the 1950's. She was a 1954 graduate of New Hanover High School and long time member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. 

The family would like to thank the staff or the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Center for the care they gave. Additionally, the family would also like to extend thanks to a special friend, Evonne Smith for her love and attention given to Lila during her final days. 

The funeral service will be held at Wrightsboro Baptist Church located at 2736 Castle Hayne Rd, Wilmington on August 28 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews. Burial immediately following at Greenlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Wrightsboro Baptist Church or the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Center.
